Crimson Tide ran into sandstorm, ran out of patience
At Williams-Brice Stadium, the nondescript but noisy home of the surprising South Carolina Gamecocks, concrete sometimes seems to turn to rubber. As the saying goes, “If it ain’t swayin’, they ain’t playin’.”
It was swayin’ Saturday.
They were playin’.
Techno music blasted throughout the stadium during the No. 19 Gamecocks’ stunning 35-21 victory over top-ranked Alabama. “Zombie Nation” is out in this stadium, if it ever was in. “Sandstorm” is the rallying tune that is played over and over, the pulsating beat starting slowly, then building until delirious students and others are whipped into a frenzy as they bounce and whip white towels over their heads.
