Miss. leads nation in exporting illegal guns
A new report finds that Mississippi leads the nation in exporting guns used in crimes.
The study released today by the New York-based group Mayors Against Illegal Guns used federal data to trace guns used in crimes back to their state of purchase. The report noted a high number of guns used in crimes came from Mississippi.
Mississippi leads the nation when population size is factored out. According to the report, in 2009 Mississippi accounted for 50.3 guns used in crimes per 100,000 residents.
West Virginia, Kentucky, Alaska and Alabama rounded out the top five on the population-adjusted list.
