Passion for SEC rivalries unmatched

“The tradition and success of college football in the SEC dates back to the ’20s when there were some cultural, economic and societal issues that the entire nation was struggling with and this part of the U.S. became somewhat of a focus,” said Slive. “College football was always one area of pride.”
Auburn-Georgia is the South’s oldest rivalry, having been played 113 times (Auburn leads 53-52-8). Ole Miss and Mississippi State have the Egg Bowl. But the rivalry that has risen like Lindsay Lohan’s legal fees is Florida-Alabama. The Gators won national titles in 2006 and 2008, the latter after overcoming Alabama in the SEC title game. The Tide won it last year after pulverizing Florida in an SEC rematch.
