Alabama, Auburn, others in SEC, ready for trench warfare
If football games really are won in the trenches, then watch out for Alabama this season and keep an eye on Auburn, Georgia and South Carolina, too.
On the preliminary watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award, which honors the nation’s top lineman each season, the Crimson Tide has three players and the Tigers, Bulldogs and Gamecocks have two apiece.
The Lombardi Award is presented to the outstanding down lineman who sets up no farther than 10 yards from the ball or linebacker who sets up no farther than 5 yards from the line of scrimmage.
