Governor Haley Barbour Urged to Run in 2012
“He’d be very compelling and very formidable,” Delaware Governor Jack Markell, the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, told the Associated Press.
But Mr. Barbour may have some competition should be decide on a run. A number of key Republicans, including former House Majority Leader Newt Gingrich, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and, of course, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin are considering runs in 2012.
Most have already built up extensive networks in early primary states. Mr. Pawlenty, for example, just returned from New Hampshire, where he spent the weekend wooing Republican leaders and helping local candidates.
