SALTER scrutinizes Franks words on Bounds

But as he is often wont to do, Mississippi Democratic Party State Chairman Jamies Franks decided to ratchet the rhetoric up a notch when state Rep. Scott Bounds decided to switch parties: “What Scott Bounds did today was not switch parties, he just finally started telling the truth about what party he supports. He’ll have to answer to voters in Neshoba County about lying to them for so long.”

Lying to them? On the contrary, it seems to me that by switching to the party where his votes coincide, he’s being honest with the voters prior to a re-election bid. “Lying” would have been to continue to vote with Republicans and run with Democrats.

Then again, I’m not sure how much Jamie Franks’ opinion on Scott Bounds matters to Bounds’ constituents in Neshoba.

In 2007, Bounds got 5,060 votes or 82 percent against a Republican opponent on the way to winning re-election.

On the same ballot the same day in the same county, the same voters gave Franks 2,170 votes for in his failed bid for Lt. Gov. against Phil Bryant.
That means that Democrat and Republicans alike in Neshoba County thought more of Scott Bounds than they did of Jamie Franks.
