The new starting QB’s…and what they need to do this spring

Which new starting QB needs to have the best spring to instill confidence in his teammates

Kevin Newsome, or whoever wins the job, at Penn State. In retrospect, Daryll Clark never reached Heisman Trophy candidate status and never strung together an All-American season. Yet he served as the Nittany Lions’ undisputed leader on offense the past two years and helped keep the team near the top of the Big Ten. His consistency is gone, leaving a significant unknown at the center of the program.
The Nits don’t need a superstar behind center. They do need reliability, a guy who’ll allow RB Evan Royster and the defense to win a series of 17-10 games. If the run-first Newsome can’t impress coaches during the spring, the staff throws open the job again in August.
