Varnado powers MSU past Alabama
STARKVILLE, Miss. | For Mississippi State, it was a night to make history.
But for the University of Alabama men’s basketball team, it was nothing out of the ordinary.
There was no dramatic second-half collapse for the Crimson Tide in its 74-66 loss to MSU on Wednesday night. There was no last-second heartbreak. It was just a case of both teams relying on their strengths and the Bulldogs proving to be stronger.
The most dramatic of those strengths — Jarvis Varnado’s shot-blocking prowess and some good 3-point shooting — made the difference in the second half. Varnado blocked eight shots, making him the new NCAA career leader in that statistical category.
