Tennessee says Kiffin drove off road and crashed car

Coach Lane Kiffin fell asleep behind the wheel of his leased Lexus and crashed the car in August, a University of Tennessee official told ESPN.com yesterday.
Kiffin took the Southern Cal job last week after just 14 months as Tennessee’s coach. A USC spokesman told ESPN that Kiffin was on a recruiting trip and unavailable for comment.

Lexus of Knoxville said in a statement that the vehicle was towed to the dealership and that Kiffin’s insurance paid the claim on the car. No incident report was filed by local authorities.

Tennessee spokeswoman Tiffany Carpenter said the incident happened near Kiffin’s home in Knoxville. Carpenter said Kiffin had been working late and drove off the road as he was going home.
