Auburn proves it can get job done away from home
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — After Auburn won its first four games, some critics said part of the reason was that they all came at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
On Saturday night, in front of 102,941 fans at loud and bright orange Neyland Stadium, Auburn picked up its first road win, a 26-22 decision over Tennessee, and perhaps scored some points with those who have judged the Tigers’
success in measured terms.
Auburn wasn’t dominant, and it had to hold off the late-charging Vols. But it was another win for a team that is now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the SEC.
AU actually passed two tests Saturday night: not only did the Tigers collect their first road victory, but they did so against one of the country’s top-rated defenses. As such, the Auburn offense, directed by first-year coordinator Gus Malzahn, produced under pressure.
