CL – One killed in standoff; Oxford man shoots brother, fires at cops

OXFORD -Police say a recently discharged mental patient killed his brother and held officers at bay with gunfire Friday afternoon before being captured in his father’s house.

A SWAT team arrested Autry, armed with a handgun, without incident about three hours after officers arrived at 3887 Majestic Oaks Drive in the upscale Grand Oaks subdivision off Mississippi 7.

Autry’s brother, Charlie Ray Hodges, 50, was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds. His father, local funeral home owner Billy Autry, was uninjured hiding in the attic.

“The SWAT team was able to overpower the suspect … (and) take him into custody unharmed,” Oxford Police Chief Mike Martin said.

A motive or how the standoff got started has not been released.
