GCW – Hood policing the ‘wild west,’ better known as the Internet

Jim Hood takes great satisfaction in policing what Mississippi’s attorney general calls the “Wild West” of the Internet.

Whether it’s catching those who traffic in child pornography or counterfeit pharmaceuticals, the responsibility falls under Hood’s statutory obligation to protect those who can’t protect themselves, he told the Greenwood Rotary Club Monday.

The young are particularly vulnerable to being victims of cybercrime, Hood said.

“All this new technology has created a lot of dangers that we didn’t face as kids.”

Parents are at a disadvantage in trying to ward off the threats because “most of us, as parents, don’t know as much about the Internet as our children,” said the married father of three.
