ATHENS, Ga. — Usually, South Carolinians come to Athens for its famous local music scene. A bunch of Gamecock fans made the trip Saturday night to see Stephen Garcia rock.
It was no given, a redshirt sophomore starting a college road game for the first time.
But Garcia on a big stage before a hostile crowd took a giant leap forward. Despite a 41-37 Southeastern Conference loss to Georgia at Sanford Stadium in a game even better than the score indicates, the South Carolina program and those who love it left Dawg World with a real quarterback.
“Stephen was very confident in the huddle,” wide receiver Tori Gurley said. “There wasn’t a doubt in my mind we were going to win this game.”
