Andre Smith’s life looking like perfect storm
Trying to figure out exactly who is to blame for former Alabama offensive lineman Andre Smith not being in an NFL training camp today is like trying to follow the path of a tornado. There is plenty of damage everywhere you look, but nobody is quite sure how it all really started.
It is certainly easy to heap blame on Smith, who has created a blueprint for how to screw up your life in less than 10 months by simply not trying.
But then you can’t forget the team that drafted him, the Cincinnati Bengals, is owned by Mike Brown, who has a reputation for being hard-headed when it comes to contract negotiations. Fifteen years ago, he wound up trading the rights to first-round pick Ricky Hunley to Denver. There have been at least four serious hold-outs in the past decade.
