Ole Miss ready to prove it belongs after 2008 win against Florida Gators sparks turnaround

HOOVER, ALA. — How is this for a television show:
A coach forced to resign from his previous job takes over a 3-9 college football team that hasn’t been ranked in The Associated Press Top 10 since 1970. His quarterback is a kid who transferred from Texas because he couldn’t get off the bench.
After starting the season 2-2 and losing to Vanderbilt, they pull off a miracle and beat the eventual national champion Florida Gators – on the road – by a blocked extra point.

With newfound confidence, they win their final six games of the season, finish 9-4, No. 14 in the polls, and thrash Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. The team that was just 10-25 under the previous coach suddenly enters 2009 as one of the hottest programs in the nation.
