The NBA nearly lost me Tuesday night. Had the Magic lost game four of the Eastern Conference finals by a point to the Cavaliers, I swore I would never watch another professional basketball game.
I truly meant it. The technical foul assessed to Magic center Dwight Howard late in the third quarter was so mind-numbingly unjustified and stupid that I was prepared to walk away from my first sports love.
Done. Finished. Kaput. Magic Johnson (my all-time favorite player), Larry Bird (my all-time favorite rival), Michael Jordan (the game’s greatest player) and Reggie Miller (my all-time favorite Pacer) wouldn’t have been able to bring me back.
