Canton lawyer accused of getting paid for work not done has trial Thursday
Antwayn Patrick has represented many clients in court, but Thursday the disbarred lawyer will be the one on trial.
Patrick, 33, is charged in five separate indictments in Holmes County involving the alleged embezzlement of his clients’ money. He allegedly did not perform the services they paid him to do.
The criminal charges are primarily the result of Mississippi Bar complaints against Patrick, whose last known address was in Canton.
Patrick’s trial Thursday in Holmes County Circuit Court is on one of the indictments.
Patrick, who had practiced law since September 2002, allegedly was paid by a man in March 2007 to represent his brother in a criminal appeal. Walter Mitchell paid Patrick the agreed-upon fee of $2,500 plus an additional $2,200 for the cost of the appeal, according to Mississippi Bar documents.
