Hearing set on officer’s trial after mayor dies
Jackson police officer Michael Recio could learn Tuesday when he’ll be tried on alleged civil rights violations now that his co-defendant, Jackson Mayor Frank Melton, has died.
Melton and Recio had been scheduled for trial Monday. Melton died last week.
They were accused in the 2006 sledgehammer attack on a duplex Melton considered a crack house.
Prosecutors indicated last week that they may need time to work on the case in light of Melton’s death.
