City spokeswoman: Jackson mayor not dead

Reports of Jackson Mayor Frank Melton’s death are incorrect, according to city spokeswoman Goldia Revies, who gave a statement at 10:40 a.m.

“He has not (died). Let me quell that rumor right now,” she said.

Revies said she is working on a statement giving more details about the mayor’s health.

“We are just trying to get the information together with the family right now,” she said.

Revies said Ellen Melton, Melton’s wife, was in consultation with the mayor’s doctors this morning. Ellen Melton is a physician and flew in from the couple’s home outside of Tyler, Texas, last night.
