Principal resigns amidst prostitution allegations
An elementary school principal from Petal was suspended and then resigned after his arrest in a prostitution sting in Gulfport.
Christopher Furdge, 38, was principal of East Travillion Attendance Center in Hattiesburg. He’s among 15 men accused of soliciting sex for money from an undercover officer posing as a prostitute.
Forrest County Schools Superintendent Debbie D. Burt on Tuesday said district officials read newspaper accounts of the sting and, as part of their investigation, “went to the school and temporarily relieved Mr. Furdge of his duties.”
“It is normal for any employee to be temporarily removed from service to lessen the disruption to the particular school and our students,” said Burt.
“Since then, Mr. Furdge has submitted his resignation. It was his belief that this was in the best interests of the children of the school and the community.”
Police released the results of the three-day sting on Monday.
