One man said he wanted his next councilman to remove homeless people from Poindexter Park. Others pointed to economic development and crime reduction as top priorities.
All of the residents said they attended the Ward 3 council forum at Wells United Methodist Church Monday night to hear what the candidates running to represent Ward 3 on the Jackson City Council envision for their neighborhoods.
“I think that this is an important election because Jackson is on the verge of becoming a major metropolitan city and not just a small town,” said James Williams, who has lived in Ward 3 for about 20 years.
Three candidates will face off in the Democratic primary on May 5 for the council seat – Harrison Michael, Kenneth Stokes and Albert Wilson.
Stokes, who has served on the council since 1989, did not attend the event. He said he planned to attend two community forums Monday night.
