Barbour to host stimulus summit in Jackson

Gov. Haley Barbour is bringing together state agency heads, legislators and local government officials for a Mississippi Stimulus Summit on Thursday in Jackson.

Barbour says the meeting at the Jackson Convention Complex will help provide information to state and local agencies about handling funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Barbour says he’s asked officials from various agencies — including the Mississippi Development Authority, the State Department of Education, Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Human Services and Department of Transportation — to present an overview of how they expect to handle the funds.
