Miss. congressman defends stimulus bill
“This is not a perfect bill. My political philosophy is the same: I still hate this debt,” Childers, a Democrat, told the editorial board of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.
But he defended his decision to vote for President Obama’s $787 billion economic stimulus plan aimed at pulling the U.S. out of its downward spiral as necessary under the “extreme circumstances.”
“Doing nothing wasn’t an option,” he said. “I don’t think the people who voted for me wanted me to go up there and do nothing.”
It would have been easier, he said, to press the “no” button, but that wouldn’t have created a job or helped one single family.
