Left behind: how speed trumped size in the 21st century
In 2007 I celebrated the first Saturday of college football by turning on the local West Virginia game. Their oponent: the Western Michigan Broncos.
As the player took the field, lined up and prepared to trade paint with one another, I was shocked at the disparity in size.
The smaller team, starting on offense, had just one receiver over 6 feet tall.
Their linemen were of decent size, but compared to the team they were playing, undersized by about 30 pounds.
The most shocking part:
West Virginia was the smaller team!
