Brett Favre’s legacy: Tough player, great star, winner
He played through a first-degree separation of his left shoulder, a deep thigh bruise, a severely sprained ankle, a broken thumb, a softball-size bruise in his thigh, at least one concussion and myriad other injuries we never heard about. He refused to allow any of them to interrupt an NFL record of 269 consecutive starts (291 including playoff games).
But when a quarterback has a damaged arm that prevents him from throwing passes at his standard level of excellence, well, that can be a career stopper. That is why Brett Favre retired Wednesday.
