WLBT has learned the Jackson city council is taking the first steps towards suing Mayor Frank Melton.
Councilman Jeff Weill said he plans to bring the idea up for discussion at Monday afternoon’s work session.
Weill said legal action may be the only way to force the mayor to turn over financial records.
The council ordered Melton on January 5 to produce 1099 tax forms. The forms would show which non-employees (such as independent contractors) receive money from the city. Weill said the mayor refused and even threatened to fire anyone that produced those documents.
