Much of Gov. Haley Barbour’s State of the State speech tonight will focus on the difficult economic situation and budget troubles facing him and the 2009 Legislature.
The speech will be carried live on public television and radio, starting at 6 p.m.
It is not clear whether Barbour will actually announce budget cuts during the remarks. But he has said he will make the cuts this week because state tax collections are not meeting projections.
Barbour also has said his speech will focus on the continuing Hurricane Katrina recovery effort.
Tonight will mark the Republican governor’s sixth State of the State address. The speeches are delivered in the House chamber to a joint session of the House and Senate.
