There is tension at City Hall: plenty of finger pointing, complaints, attacks and hurt feelings.
Some of those involved say the heated relationship between the Jackson City Council and Mayor Frank Melton’s administration has reached an all-time low.
“I don’t remember ever it being this tension driven as it is now,” Council President Leslie Burl McLemore said. “This is an unusual experience.”
The tension slows government action, with the sides often going at it during council meetings and at work sessions. As a result, not much is accomplished.
Councilman Charles Tillman said it also sends a bad message to business leaders considering doing business with the city.
“I put myself in the shoes of an investor, and I say, ‘With all this going on, no, I would rather go to a better situation, a better business climate where I know when I invest my money, I know we have government concerned,’ ” he said.
