After reading yesterday’s well written editorial in the Clarion-Ledger, I have about come to the conclusion that the state should return to having regular legislative sessions every two years. The list of legislative issues the Clarion-Ledger cites is the same list we have year in and year out. Legislators simply refuse to do any sort of long term planning or pass any law that would deal with some or all of these issues for a period longer than six months. I am thinking having sessions every year lets them off the hook. They know they can deal with the problems “next year.” If they knew they would have sessions every other year, then perhaps they would grapple with these issues a little more seriously.
