LITTLE ROCK – In the Southeastern Conference, where football is king, it’s never too early to look at the season on the horizon.
For this exercise, the starting point is experience at quarterback or the lack thereof. Hearken back to late July when it was written that LSU or Auburn would win the Western Division only if they were so loaded with athletes that the quarterback would have little to do. If the wisdom of a senior is at the heart of things, “then Alabama and senior quarterback John Parker Wilson is the pick.”
Remember, LSU won the national championship in 2007 with fifth-year senior Matt Flynn and Florida did it in 2006 with senior Chris Leak and freshman phenom Tim Tebow.
Reviewing the 2008 picks for All-SEC offers little insight about 2009. Tebow and Matthew Stafford of Georgia are 1-2 on the all-conference teams and both could be gone before the Gators and the Bulldogs play Arkansas next fall.
In the Western Division, the quarterback with experience and a solid W-L record is Ole Miss’s Jevan Snead, and it is eerie how Houston Nutt’s first two years with the Rebels could parallel his 1998 and 1999 at Arkansas.
