The spread offense had yet to be invented when Dan Mullen was a toddler in the early 1970’s.
But that didn’t mean it was too early for the two-year-old to at least start learning the basics of offense, something that would become his forte years later.
Just ask his father.
“Dan just always loved football from the time he was a little baby, even before he could walk,” Robert Mullen said. “His granddad used to throw a stuffed baby elephant at him and he would start catching it. He was just always very, very football aware. I can’t honestly say when I knew he’d be a coach. But he just really enjoyed football, especially the strategy of it. When he got out of college he got the opportunity to coach and jumped at it.”
