For three seasons, Ole Miss safety Jamarca Sanford and his fellow seniors suffered as the Rebels combined for a 10-25 record, having never won more than four games in a season.
That’s why Sanford was nearly speechless after Saturday’s 17-7 win over Auburn, which improved the Rebels to 5-4 and left them just one victory short of bowl eligibility.
”As a senior, words can’t really explain how happy I am and excited for the team,” Sanford said. ”Everybody is just playing together and coming out and competing. We’re so close to a bowl, but we’ve got to finish still.”
Since the Rebels’ stunning 31-30 win at Florida on Sept. 27, they have become an attractive target for several of the bowl games tied in with the Southeastern Conference. Representatives of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Independence Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Capital One Bowl, Papajohns.com Bowl and Music City Bowl visited Vaught-Hemingway Stadium last Saturday.
