Mississippi sees heavy turnout
Voting problems at Lillie Burney precinct are resolved, pollworkers report.
This morning, an electricity problem led to a backed-up line at a single voting machine. The wait was about 45 minutes. By mid-morning, two other voting machines were brought in.
At noon, there were no lines and three people were voting.
Pollworkers said 229 have already voted at the precinct and 350 were expected.
The lunch crowd was light at the West Side Precinct voting station.
There was steady stream of voters in and out of Community Bible Church, but the major rush appears to have ended. So far, 523 people have voted there.
“I expect things to pick up this afternoon as people get off from work,” said John Whidden, poll manager.
Over at Wesley Manor, the lunchtime crowd was a bit heavier, but moving quickly. More than 600 people had voted there as of 1 p.m., but no problems have been reported, said Gail Frazure, poll manager.
