Federal judge sides with Hood on release of Entergy records
Attorney General Jim Hood this morning applauded a U.S. District Court decision that denies Entergy’s attempt to stop the state from obtaining records of their energy purchases.
Hood said the Thursday night decision paves the way for the AG’s office to demand the records’ release before a Monday hearing in Hinds County Chancery Court.
“If they have nothing to hide, as they contend, then why can’t they put their proof on the table?” Hood asked during a news conference with reporters in his office. “These are documents the public is entitled to.”
Entergy spokeswoman Mara Hartmann said Hood’s allegations are unfounded, untrue and irresponsible. She said Entergy has always had oversight from the Mississippi Public Service Commission and the power company has always been in compliance.
“We’re not saying the attorney general can’t have these documents,” she said. “We’re just saying that we want him to get the information through the proper channel, which in this case is the Public Service Commission.”
Hartmann said trying to compile 30 years of records — which Hood has requested — is a tall order.
“We feel like the request is burdensome to our ratepayers and taxpayers alike,” she said. “This is information going back to 1970. We’re disappointed with the AG’s office. This creates a negative business environment in a state that is seeking to attract more business.”
