A group including state lawmakers and Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann is seeking the input of Mississippians about voter ID and other changes to election laws.
The state’s Comprehensive Election Reform Review Panel held its first meeting Tuesday night in South Mississippi, and others will be held in the rest of the state in the next few days. The group, created by an election reform bill that passed the Legislature in the 2008 session, hopes to complete a report to give to the Legislature on proposed changes to the election system in Mississippi.
“We’re here to listen,” said Senate Elections Committee Chair Terry Burton, R-Newton, who authored the bill that created the committee.
Several local people, including poll workers, gave their comments Tuesday to the committee, which will use them to compile the report.
