Mississippians watching Thursday’s vice presidential debate between Republican Sarah Palin and Democrat Joe Biden split on who emerged the winner, and some Republicans questioned whether Palin’s performance helped the GOP ticket.
Many voters said they had already decided whom to support before the debate at Washington University in St. Louis. It came less than a week after presidential candidates Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain debated at the University of Mississippi.
“I thought Palin did well,” said Kevin Kosek, a 29-year-old McCain supporter from Jackson. “I don’t think she did well enough to make up for the fall in the polls that she and McCain have taken.”
Robby Luckett, a 31-year-old graduate student from Jackson supporting the Democratic ticket, said Biden “offered a really strong … and informed voice on specific issues that made me very confident in his ability to be a quality vice president and a president, if it came to that.”
