The candidates for the special election to fill Trent Lott’s U.S. Senate seat square off tonight face to face for Mississippi voters to consider.
It should be a welcome relief to hear Republican interim Sen. Roger Wicker and Democratic former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove speak in their own words after months of dueling TV campaign ads that essentially say, “did not … did, too! … nanny, nanny, boo, boo!”
To be fair, the constant barrage of ads are mostly not paid for by the candidates themselves. Both camps say they have no contact with the groups running many of those ads, and the only ads they control are the ones for which they paid.
Presumably, at 7 p.m. at Mississippi College School of Law, the two will be cordial. They were, after all, roommates when they both served in the Mississippi Legislature.
