Hosemann joins other secretaries of state in Middle East

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 1, 2008

The Sun Herald, 10/1/8

Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann is in the Middle East on a Pentagon-sanctioned tour to encourage troops to vote in this year’s election, and he expects those deployed to cast record numbers of ballots.

In a conference call with reporters, Hosemann said he was picked along with the secretaries of state from Pennsylvania, Indiana, Florida and California for the trip.

Hosemann said Mississippi is one of the first states to allow military members to vote via e-mail, and it has helped remedy the extreme delay ballots of deployed service members often experience. Sometimes it takes as long as 10 days for ballots to be delivered and just as long to be sent back. But the e-mail comes in quickly and the vote is confidential. Military members can still also vote via absentee ballot.

Hosemann said officials expect many military members to vote this year.
