SOUTH BEND — A big victory over Michigan behind him, Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis now has Michigan State in his sights as the Irish try to put their 3-9 record of a year ago further behind them.
“I think this is the next step in the curve,” Weis said Tuesday during his weekly press conference.
The 2-0 Irish face the 2-1 Spartans on Saturday afternoon in East Lansing, Mich., and while the Irish showed improvement in Week 2 after looking suspect in an opening victory over San Diego State, Weis knows his team can’t rest on the trouncing of Michigan.
“You can’t just worry about the game that was played,” said Weis, who walked Tuesday without the aid of a cane or crutches after suffering a left knee injury during the Michigan game.
