The city of Jackson will not cut property taxes but will give raises to all city employees under the 2008-09 budget proposal unanimously approved by the Jackson City Council’s budget committee Thursday.
The annual spending plan also calls for increased building and court fees and commits thousands of dollars to a scaled-back summer youth employment program.
If the budget is approved by the full council today, Mayor Frank Melton said he will not veto it. Melton had threatened to use his veto power during earlier budget negotiations.
The city has until Monday to approve the budget. The new fiscal year starts Oct. 1.
