As a fight over the ballot placement of a U.S. Senate race continued Thursday, differing opinions from the attorney general and secretary of state caused confusion among election commissioners responsible for arranging the November ballot.
At issue is where they should put the special election between Roger Wicker and Ronnie Musgrove. It’s at the bottom of a sample ballot Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann sent commissioners after the state Supreme Court set aside a lower court’s temporary order blocking the ballot.
Attorney General Jim Hood advised election commissioners Thursday that state law requires races for federal offices to be placed near the top of the ballot.
Meanwhile, a ruling is pending from Hinds County Circuit Court Judge Tomie Green on a challenge of the ballot sent out by Hosemann.
