Nutt: No more ‘foolish mistakes’

Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt admitted Saturday’s 30-28 loss to No. 20 Wake Forest lingered even after the Rebels returned to Oxford.
Ole Miss was beaten on Sam Swank’s 41-yard field goal with three seconds left.
“That was a tough one to get over,” Nutt said Monday at his weekly press conference.
The Rebels will face FCS (formerly Division I-AA) opponent Samford on Saturday night at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Samford (2-0) is coached by Pat Sullivan, who won the Heisman Trophy while playing at quarterback for Auburn in 1971.
One school of thought is that the Rebels would be better served by playing a more formidable opponent, after the close call at Wake Forest.
Nutt doesn’t necessarily buy it.
“Every Saturday, there’s a shocker (in college football),” Nutt said. “Our goal is to get better. It doesn’t matter if we’re playing the Green Bay Packers or Samford. We’ve got to be better. We’ve got to be a smarter team Saturday.”
