Officials with Chevron Corporation announced Thursday the company is taking steps toward another expansion at its refinery plant east of Pascagoula.
The refinery would produce 25,000 barrels a day of base oil, used in making premium motor oils. With this addition Chevron would become the largest producer of base oil in the world.
The expansion comes on the heels of $1 billion in other expansions the company has announced for the refinery.
Gov. Haley Barbour called this “another strong statement of confidence in Mississippi.
