OXFORD – ‘Twas the night before full gear, and the daily grind was starting to show.
Ole Miss will put on full pads for the first time in today’s practice, but the absentee list began to grow Thursday night.
As the Rebels worked in helmets and shoulder pads for the second straight day, the most significant no-show was left offensive guard Reid Neely.
Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said Neely has a strained Achilles tendon. It’s uncertain when he might return.
Despite the missing players, Nutt liked what he saw as the team worked indoors. He credited the offense for bouncing back after it was handled by the defense Wednesday evening.
“They really picked up some things, some blitzes. I was really proud of how they responded. Jevan (Snead) and Billy (Tapp) threw the ball well today. The receivers ran good routes, and the offensive line did much better,” Nutt said. “Tomorrow will be the first day in pads, and now comes the grind, the really physical part of it.”
