National party makes big media buy for Childers’ campaign

By: Magnolia Tribune - July 25, 2008

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, 7/24/8

U.S. Rep. Travis Childers’ push to hold onto the 1st District seat he won in May got a boost this week with news of $1.06 million in TV ad time bought for his fall campaign.

The reservation came from the Democratic National Congressional Committee, which announced Tuesday it had bought $18 million in ad time for 20 House races.

That spending comes 10 days after the DNCC spent an estimated $35 million on ad time in 31 other House races.

Childers, a Democrat from Booneville, faces Republican Greg Davis of Southaven in the Nov. 4 general election. The two were also opponents when Childers won the May 13 special election to replace Roger Wicker, a Republican who was appointed to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Trent Lott.

There’s no official word from the National Republican Congressional Committee on what it plans to invest in his latest campaign. This past spring, it spent $1.29 million on his candidacy.
