The BenJarvus Green-Ellis era is officially behind the Ole Miss football program after the running back’s consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons, and now first-year head coach Houston Nutt’s search for a replacement is underway.
Cordera Eason, who has been lurking in Green-Ellis’ shadows for the past two seasons, seems to have the advantage on the starting job.
Eason, a junior from Meridian, was a highly-touted recruit coming out of Meridian High School, but has rarely seen the field since arriving at Ole Miss.
In two seasons of action, the 5-foot-11 tailback has only carried the ball 10 times for a total of 21 yards.
Though Eason is lacking game experience, he had two full seasons of practicing everyday behind Green-Ellis, which should not be discounted.
There is no doubt that Eason learned many tricks of the trade from the former Rebel back.
Challenging for the starting slot is arguably the most talented player in Nutt’s first recruiting class at Ole Miss, Enrique Davis.
Davis signed with Auburn in 2007 but never enrolled at the school, and spent last season at Hargrave Military Academy.
