Judge: Miss. AG conspired with Scruggs
A federal judge in Alabama says Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood conspired with prominent trial attorney Richard “Dickie” Scruggs to skirt a court order.
U.S. District Judge William Acker ruled this week that Hood helped his “close confidant” Scruggs avoid handing over papers the trial lawyer wanted for Katrina-related lawsuits against State Farm Fire and Casualty Co.
Acker did not recommend any criminal or civil action against Hood. But he cited Scruggs for civil contempt and ordered him and two whistleblowers to pay $65,000 in attorney fees.
Hood says he plans to challenge the decision.
