Politics Today: Partisan politics may no longer apply in DeSoto

Conventional wisdom says Southaven Republican Greg Davis should be delivering the political equivalent of a knockout blow to Democrat Travis Childers today.

Davis is scheduled to appear with Vice President Dick Cheney in DeSoto County the day before voters go to the polls to decide who will represent Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District until January.

The district has been represented by a Republican since 1995. And picking up an endorsement from Cheney, who represents a two-term Republican administration in the White House, might seem a surefire way to put Davis over the top in a close race.

And that may in fact happen. But if ever there was a year conventional wisdom could be wrong, this might be it.
