Attorney General Jim Hood said Thursday he will stay with the Sanctuary Hospice House case despite an offer by Lee County Prosecuting Attorney James D. Moore to handle the prosecution.
Hood did acknowledge that turning over the case would have been an easy exit from one of the stickiest situations in his 19-year prosecuting career.
“It would be politically best for me to say, all right Mr. County Prosecutor, take it,” Hood said Thursday. “But it would not be right. Imagine the pressure placed on a local elected official.”
On Wednesday, Moore told the Daily Journal he had sent a letter to Hood asking him to allow him to handle the case. Hood said Thursday he had not received the letter, but rejected the offer.
