Hinds debris cleanup expected to take as long as 3 months

By: Magnolia Tribune - May 1, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 4/29/8

Even though other Hinds County spots and its small towns had significantly less debris than Jackson after the April 4 tornadoes, Public Works Director Carl Felix said Monday cleanup efforts there could take as long, if not longer than, in the capital city.

In Jackson, cleanup efforts are expected to be completed in less than 60 days. Hinds County debris removal could take up to three months, Felix said.

Hinds County has an estimated 27,000 cubic yards of debris, and 8,900 have been picked up so far, Felix said. Jackson has an estimated 200,000 cubic yards of debris and nearly a third has been picked up, according to city staff.
